Aluminum roofing cleaning tips

Power washing is recommended

When getting ready to clean something as huge and complicated as an entire roof, there are some tools that work better than others. A power washer is one of the best tools for cleaning your aluminum roof because of the force the water exerts. This force is enough to clear your roof of common debris, but it will not damage your roof in any way. But we understand that not everyone has access to a power washer, so it is not the only option for cleaning your roof. If you are not interested in using a power washer on your aluminum roof, the next entry in our aluminum roofing cleaning tips post will give you other options that will also work.

Use the correct tools

If power washing is not your forte, there are other tools that will work perfectly fine on your aluminum roof. Some of the other tools that you can use are washcloths, soft bristle brushes, sponges, and scrubbing pads. Although these tools are very effective in cleaning your roof, they are smaller and may take a lot more time.

Once you have the correct tools, you need to get the correct chemicals to clean your roof. If you want to use more than just water, we recommend a mild detergent, laundry soap, car washing soap, or even dish soap. Any of these options will get the job done and will do no harm to your beautiful aluminum roof. Another route you could go is with commercial detergents that you may be able to get at bulk prices.

Use safety equipment

Once you get the correct cleaning tools and materials, you are almost ready to begin cleaning your aluminum roof. But before you even consider getting on your roof, you must acquire the correct safety equipment. Some of the safety equipment you should be using includes a safe and sturdy ladder, shoes with good grip, and even a fall protection system. When it comes to doing work on a roof at any time, safety should always be your top priority. You do not want to take a chance of injuring yourself on such a project.

Do not clean in inclement weather

On the topic of safety, we recommend that you never clean your roof during inclement weather. If it is raining, snowing, or just cold in general, aluminum roof cleaning should be the last thing that you are worrying about. Even if you cleaned your roof during this weather, your roof would get dirty again and your hard work would be ruined. It is best to simply wait until the weather is clear and then use the proper practices to clean your roof effectively.

Clean with more than one person

This rule of thumb goes for anything related to roofing: do not work on or clean your metal roof by yourself. If you are working on your roof alone and something happens to you, there is a possibility that any accidents could be fatal or result in serious injuries.
